Limerick boxer Andy Lee has went out of the Olympics in heartbreaking terms, drawing 27-27 with Cameroon's Hassan Ndam Njikam, then losing on a countback.
Lee fell two points behind his powerful opponent in the first round of the middleweight bout and was always forced onto the offensive to try to recover these points.
20-year-old Lee still trailed by two points - 18-20 - going into the fourth and final round and put in a superb effort to try and recover the deficit.
With a late rally, he managed to bring the scores back to 27-27 just ahead of the final bell.
The fight then went to a punch countback, and because the Cameroonian had thrown more punches, he was deemed the winner.
The decision brought Lee to his knees as his opponent's arm was raised by the referee.
