Radcliffe 'moves on' after Olympics

Paula Radcliffe admits nothing can ever compensate for last year’s Olympic misery but believes the strength she has subsequently acquired will serve her well at the forthcoming World Championships in Helsinki.

Paula Radcliffe admits nothing can ever compensate for last year’s Olympic misery but believes the strength she has subsequently acquired will serve her well at the forthcoming World Championships in Helsinki.

The 31-year-old dropped out of the 10,000m days after failing to finish the marathon at last summer’s Athens Games but has again chosen to potentially double up at the event which starts next week in the Finnish capital.

However, the schedule means Radcliffe could use the 10,000m as a final training session as it is on the opening day of the competition, with the marathon to come eight days later.

While she knows it would be a demanding programme, Radcliffe insists her decision to double up was one she came to gradually and claims it is a test she can handle.

She said: “Nothing will make up for what happened last year.

“It happened. I will never be happy with it. But I have moved on and put it behind me.”
