Sporting grant increased by Lotto

Sporting groups across the country are set to receive a windfall this morning.

Sporting groups across the country are set to receive a windfall this morning.

It follows an announcement by the lotto sports grants that more is to be given to sport's communities.

The Opposition has accused the Government of trying to buy the electorate. 85 sporting bodies are set to get €76m in lotto grants.

However, the Opposition parties insist that the announcement is politically motivated.

The lotto grant is a 35% jump from last year. Usually, the grants are announced in July but Minister McDaid’s office insists there is nothing political about the announcement date.

Meanwhile, new speculation about a possible election date focuses on Friday May 10.
