TalkTalk workers to gain access to EU fund

Workers who were made redundant from TalkTalk in Waterford last year are set to gain access to EU monies to help them upskill and retrain.

MEPs in Strasbourg will vote later on today on the approval of €2.7m in funding that comes from the EU’s globalisation Adjustment Fund.

The EU monies will be matched by an equal amount from the Irish State.

The Fine Gael MEP Sean Kelly says the funding will help the workers by providing them with guidance and career planning, training and education and enterprise grants and supports.

“In total, it will be €5.4m with half coming from the European Union, the other half from the resources of the state.

“Particularly, it’s geared towards the workers individually. They have all been spoken to and hopefully their desires will be met in terms of upskilling, education, training and establishing new businesses.”
