A supplementary budget totalling €680m for the Health Service Executive has been requested in the Dáil.
It is to cover an overspend by the HSE of €510m this year, along with a range of other areas.
The motion laid before the Dáil today says an extra €55m is needed for the State claims agency and €165m is needed for primary care reimbursement.
Last week Health Minister Leo Varadkar warned that there will be no future bailout of the health service and any overspend from now on will have to come out of the following year’s budget.
However, the bailouts do not end in health - there is also €35m for the Department of the Environment, €103m for the Department of Education, €177m for the Department of Agriculture, €162m for the Department of Transport and €5m for army pensions - meaning the taxpayer is bailing out overspends of €1.184bn.
