Weathermen in South Africa could face jail if they get their forecasts wrong.

A new legislation in the country means meteorologists will have to seek written permission before they can issue a severe weather warning.

But forecasters who get it wrong for the first time could face a fine of up to £400,000 and up to a four or five-year prison sentence, while those who repeat the offence could find themselves in jail for as long as 10 years and with a fine of £800,000.
