ISEQ edges towards 6000 mark

The ISEQ index edged back towards the 6000 mark this morning as the market made an uncertain start to the day.

The ISEQ index edged back towards the 6000 mark this morning as the market made an uncertain start to the day.

There were mixed fortunes for the banks, with AIB the only institution to make gains this morning, adding 13c to €14.75.

The biggest loser among the financials was Anglo Irish Bank which shed €24c in early trading to €16.81. Bank of Ireland was down 7c to €11.41, while Irish Life & Permanent was unchanged at €13.

Pharmaceutical giant Elan enjoyed a positive morning, adding 40c to €20.

The most traded stocks on the Irish market this morning were AIB, C&C Group, Bank of Ireland, Anglo Irish Bank and Elan.
