Four people have appeared in court after customs officers at Dublin airport seized more than 50,000 contraband cigarettes.

Four people have appeared in court after customs officers at Dublin airport seized more than 50,000 contraband cigarettes.

A Polish woman and three Polish men who arrived on a flight from London yesterday, were arrested after the cigarettes were found in their luggage.

The cigarettes are understood to be worth more than €22,000.They appeared before Dublin District Court this morning and were remanded in custody for a week.

The cigarette seizure represented a potential loss to the Exchequer of more than 20,000 euro.
