Connell: ‘Homelessness is Ireland’s number one social problem’

Cardinal Desmond Connell, the Catholic Archbishop of Dublin, has described homelessness as the most serious social problem in Ireland.

Cardinal Desmond Connell, the Catholic Archbishop of Dublin, has described homelessness as the most serious social problem in Ireland.

Dr Connell said the provision of social housing in Ireland was totally insufficient to meet current demand and he urged the Government to take more action to address the problem.

He was speaking at the launch of the diocesan care agency Crosscare’s annual report for 2002.
