A report by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development has highlighted a shortage of computers in Irish schools.

The report also said that many Irish teachers lack computer knowledge and skills, leaving Ireland lagging behind other developed countries in the use of information technology in schools.

The OECD said its members have an average of one computer for every nine students at upper second-level education, but the figure in Ireland is just 13.1 computers for every student.

The average OECD ratio of teachers to computers is also six to one while in Ireland the figure is nine to one.
