Gerry Adams is under fire for his response to the conviction of Thomas 'Slab' Murphy for tax evasion.
Murphy, who Mr Adams previously described as a 'good Republican', was found guilty of nine charges at the Special Criminal Court yesterday.
Mr Adams says he will not be making any comment until the legal process has concluded.
Renua Leader Lucinda Creighton has said this position shows Sinn Fein is not fit for Government.
And Labour Party Senator Mairia Cahill, a former Republican, has said Gerry Adams is contradicting himself: "That would have been a fine position for him to have taken and I would have accepted that had he not commented while proceedings were live previously which he has done."
"It's a complete contradictory stance from Gerry Adams you know, he has commented previously when the case is live so he is perfectly able and free to comment on it, that he has chosen not to do so raises more questions than answers."
