Following a meeting with senior management in the Department of Agriculture today on the ongoing industrial dispute, IFA Deputy President Ruaidhri Deasy said the severe problems individual farmers are encountering as a result of this dispute must be resolved by the Minister for Agriculture Joe Walsh.

Mr Deasy said IFA highlighted the real difficulties of farmers who are restricted under disease control measures.

Mr Deasy said: "These producers are prevented from moving their animals because they cannot get permits as a result of the dispute."

As well as the income problems, there are significant animal disease and welfare issues not being dealt with by the Department for these farmers.

In addition Mr Deasy said IFA outlined the problems for all farmers in the affected counties in respect of extensification premium, stocking rates, premium applications, reps and structural investment schemes.

Mr Deasy again called on the Minister for Agriculture Joe Walsh to immediately put in place a structure to deal with and relieve the problems being inflicted on farmers as a result of the dispute.
