Sevilla striker Luis Fabiano is set to be sidelined for around six weeks after suffering a knee injury during last night’s defeat to Athletic Bilbao, the Primera Division club have confirmed.

The Brazil international was stretchered off in obvious agony during the second half of the match at San Mames after appearing to land awkwardly on his right leg whilst running.

Fears of a long-term injury were assuaged following tests today, with Sevilla saying on their website that the problem was “not as serious as expected”, but it was also confirmed that Luis Fabiano still faces a six-week lay-off.

Sevilla, who play Barcelona this weekend, are eighth in the Primera Division standings following their 2-0 loss to Athletic, two points behind sixth-placed Espanyol and the European places.
