HSE reports significant progress since HIQA report

The HSE says the situation at Waterford Regional Hospital has evolved significantly since a HIQA report was carried out on breast cancer services there.

The HSE says the situation at Waterford Regional Hospital has evolved significantly since a HIQA report was carried out on breast cancer services there.

The leaked report stated that the hospital, which is one of the designated centres of excellence, had serious failures.

It claimed the facility failed to meet 36 of the 48 national standards.

This evening, the HSE issued a statement, saying that significant progress has been made in line with all of the standards.

A multidisciplinary team including radiology, pathology, surgery and anaesthesia consultants have been appointed or are in the process of being appointed.

And an ICT system is currently being installed.

Taoiseach Brian Cowen says the centres of excellence model is the only way forward.
