Workers at the AIBP plant in Dromod, Co Leitrim have begun a protest outside the plant today after management told the staff that the plant was to close.

The protest is expected to last until next Thursday when unions have asked the management to meet with them.

It was believed that the plant was closed down following an inspection by a team from the Department of Agriculture but the Department says that it was informed by the plant’s owners that they were voluntarily closing down in order to bring development plans forward.
