Pistorius arrives in court

Oscar Pistorius has arrived at a South African court today ahead of the expected indictment of the double-amputee Olympian on a charge of premeditated murder.

Pistorius stood in the dock of the Pretoria courtroom and wiped away tears. He also held hands with his brother Carl and sister Aimee.

Prosecutors say Pistorius will be formally charged over the Valentine’s Day killing of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.

They say Pistorius killed Ms Steenkamp after an argument.

He says he mistakenly shot her, believing she was an intruder in his home.

The athlete is expected to go on trial in early 2014. He faces a life sentence with a minimum of 25 years in prison if convicted of premeditated murder.
