Corrie Catfight watched by 12 million in UK

More than 12 million British viewers tuned in to last night’s Coronation Street triple bill.

More than 12 million British viewers tuned in to last night’s Coronation Street triple bill.

All hell broke loose in Weatherfield when Todd dropped the bombshell that he was gay.

As pregnant girlfriend Sarah-Louise took in the devastating news, their mothers Eileen and Gail had a catfight on the cobbles.

The 7.30pm episode drew 12.1 million viewers and the 8.30pm episode got 12.2 million – over half the available audience.

The special 10pm episode was also a ratings winner with an audience of 11.5 million.

Every one of them beat struggling rival EastEnders, which managed 11.2 million.

The BBC soap recently slumped to its lowest ever ratings of just 6.4 million, trounced by an Emmerdale special.

A Coronation Street spokeswoman said: “We are delighted with the viewing figures, particularly the 10pm episode getting such high ratings.

“It is a testament to how strong last night’s episodes were.”

And there is more turmoil to come for distraught Sarah-Louise.

Next week she collapses in agony at Roy’s cafe and is rushed to hospital.

Doctors tell her she needs an emergency Caesarean and her baby boy fights for life after being born eight weeks early.
