A Portuguese man was charged today with the murder of a manager whose body was found in the kitchen of the hotel where she worked.

The discovery of 24-year-old Grainne Dillon’s body at the Jury’s Inn Hotel in Limerick in the early hours of Saturday led to all 300 guests - including players and officials from the Harlequins rugby club, in town for a Heineken Cup fixture with Munster - being questioned by police as part of routine investigations into the killing.

Paulo Nascimento, 26, from the Algarve, Portugal, but with an address in Limerick, was today remanded in custody until Thursday.

Nascimento was granted legal aid and District Judge Tom O’Donnell ordered that a forensic psychiatric examination should be carried out on him.

Ms Dillon, who was from Cork, was found dead in the kitchen of the hotel, where she was part of the management team.

Police said she had been shot several times with a shotgun.
