A five-day battle over cocaine producing plantations has claimed 44 lives in Colombia’s northern mountains.
Troops have now regained control of the area in Antioquia State. Forty-four leftist guerrillas and right-wing paramilitary fighters died in the fighting, according to Colonel Jairo Ovalle.
Colonel Ovalle said that troops have recovered the bodies of 14 paramilitary fighters near the village of Acacia.
The battle started on Tuesday and ended on Saturday.
