It is crucial that the December Budget maintains a balance between increases in current spending and the needs of the economy to regain lost competitiveness, delegates at the annual Small Firms Association (SFA) lunch were told today.

SFA chairperson Angela Kennedy told the audience: “Our challenges in relation to health, education, housing, infrastructure and planning are even more pressing now that we know that we can create the resources to tackle and overcome them. But resources are only one aspect of the problem.

"Solving the problems of public service delivery will not be achieved simply by cheque book economics or as one commentator recently put it “Craggy Island” economics. It requires much more."
