The Association of Garda Superintendents has called for its members to be given separate legal representation at the Morris Tribunal.
At present, superintendents are represented at the tribunal by the Garda Commissioner's legal team, but if a conflict arises, the commissioner's interests take precedence.
The Morris Tribunal was established to investigate alleged Garda corruption in the Donegal division.
It has already led to one superintendent being sacked and another taking early retirement.
