Support among the Farming community for the Nice Treaty is growing.

An opinion poll published in the Irish Farmers Journal shows a 7% rise in those planning to vote.

Almost 95% of polled say they are planning to cast their ballots in the Nice Treaty Referendum.

Up to 45% say they will vote yes, with 27 saying they will go against and more than 25% are still undecided on which way to vote.

Some of those planning to say 'no' to Nice believe it will have a negative effect on farming, while others declared they are against the expansion of the Union and are concerned that smaller states such as Ireland will be marginalised.

28% of voters regard enlargement as positive, with 20% convinced of the EU’s value to Ireland.

Concerns among the undecided include the negative effect of the Treaty on farming and reservations about enlargement.

18% attribute their indecision to a lack of information.
