Foreign direct investment in Ireland stood at €25.85bn in 2002 with the Netherlands and the USA accounting for over half the investment.

Foreign direct investment in Ireland stood at €25.85bn in 2002 with the Netherlands and the USA accounting for over half the investment.

Investment stock stood at €176,174m at the end of 2002 roughly the same as the 2001 figure.

Holland and the States accounted for €97,362m of this figure, according to data released by the Central Statistics Office.

However, 2001 saw a lot of American disinvestment - €8,088m – with was only offset by increased investment flows of €17,579m from European investors while Japanese investors contributed €1,665m.

A sizeable amount of the Dutch investment, €10,734m, originated in the US, however.

Investment by Irish firms in foreign direct investment enterprises fell to €3,277m last year from €4,543m in 2001.
