It is expected that the Taoiseach and the Tanaiste will discuss the planned review of the National Stadium when they meet this week.

The meeting comes amid growing speculation of tension between the coalition partners over the spiralling costs of the project.

Bertie Ahern and Mary Harney will discuss the proposed terms of reference for the external review when they meet.

The Progressive Democrats are reportedly withholding final approval of the stadium until the review is finished in the Autumn.

The stadium is a pet project of the Taoiseach who has pushed on with the plan despite opposition from a number of quarters.

The differences between Mr Ahern and Ms Harney came to the surface when the GAA announced it had been promised £60m and then voted not to open up Croke Park to other sports.

As that row unfolded, the differences of opinion about the stadium in Abbotstown came to the fore.
