Longford Westmeath TD Mary O'Rourke is the latest Deputy to pledge support to the Taoiseach as leader of Fianna Fáil ahead of tonight's confidence motion in Brian Cowen.

Mrs O'Rourke told Midlands 103 that she thought it was too near to an election for a change of leader.

"It's not that I feel Brian Cowen is going to do wonders between now and Election day, but I feel it's gone too late," she said.

"The Election is almost upon us…To change now would be a recipe for mayhem I think."
