Homicide offences down 30% in past 12 months
The number of murders and manslaughters in Ireland has fallen by almost one third over the past year, according to the latest CSO crime figures.
The statistics agency says 57 homicide offences were recorded in the 12 months up to the end of September, compared to 82 in the previous 12-month period.
Elsewhere, the number of reported sexual offences was down by just over 6% in the same period, while reported incidences of assault, harassment and related offences were up by 9%.
Robberies, thefts and burglaries were also up, while drugs offences increased by a massive 24%, weapons and explosives offences were up 15% and public order offences were up 3%.
