A British teenager is fighting for his life in hospital after being hit in the head by a discus at school, it emerged today.
Steven Commey was hit in the back of the head during a PE lesson at Barlow Roman Catholic High School in Manchester shortly after 3pm yesterday.
The 14-year-old, from Northern Moor, was knocked unconscious and suffered a cardiac arrest before paramedics could reach him, an ambulance spokeswoman said today.
They performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the way to Wythenshawe Hospital, where his condition was stabilised before he was transferred to the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital at Pendlebury.
He was today said to be in a critical condition on a life support system. His family are thought to be at his bedside.
