The organisers of the National Steam Rally have apologised to all those affected by the cancellation of the event at the weekend.

The rally in Stradbally, Co Laois, had to be called off at the last minute because of torrential rain.

The president of the Irish Steam Preservation Society has acknowledged that a huge number of people were inconvenienced, including those who had set up stalls.

Ken Graham says it was the first time in 43 years that the rally had to be called off.
