Gardaí call for mandatory 12-year sentence for attacks on officers
Rank and file gardaí are calling for the introduction of a mandatory 12-year sentence for attacking a member of the force.
It is one of 20 motions up for discussion at the annual conference of the Garda Representative Association, which resumes in Limerick this morning.
Figures show that on average two gardaí are injured every day in the course of their duties.
