Labour Leader Eamon Gilmore said today that he wants a General Election sooner rather than later.

Labour Leader Eamon Gilmore said today that he wants a General Election sooner rather than later.

Gilmore said an election can only be called if the Government resigns, or if they are defeated in a vote in the Dáil.

He maintains that Labour is ready to govern, and will pursue the economic policies necessary to create jobs.

He also said Labour would consider entering into government with Fine Gael but that it is too early to talk about possible Government partnerships.

He stated that the priority must be securing an election.

Speaking at a party rally to celebrate Labour's election wins, Eamon Gilmore said Fianna Fáil and the Greens are clinging to power.
