Cowell: I'm a better mentor than Cole
Simon Cowell thinks he’d be a better mentor to Cheryl Cole’s ‘X Factor’ acts.
The head judge on the singing reality show feels Cole needs to take more risks with her three acts left in the competition, Katie Waissel, Cheryl Lloyd and Rebecca Ferguson.
Of Rebecca, he said “She’s not a whimpering puppy. She’s got steel in her. She genuinely wants to win. She argues passionately about the songs and the way she wants to do them.
“If her personality isn’t coming across, it’s Cheryl’s fault. It’s Cheryl’s job. Or maybe Rebecca switches to me for a week, I’ll get her personality out.”
Cowell also said Lloyd – who performed Run DMC’s version of Aerosmith’s ‘Walk This Way’ for rock week on last night’s show - looks up to him and pays more attention to what he says than her own mentor.
He claimed: “When she gets criticised by me it’s like she has been shot, and she is genuinely devastated and upset for 24 hours. Everyone thinks she looks up to Cheryl – but she looks up to me.
“Cheryl sees something of herself in Cher – it’s vanity! Some might even say narcissism.”
Cowell – who has only one act remaining in the competition, group One Direction - also said he thinks Cole’s third act, Katie, is being bullied, and despite landing in the bottom two acts four times, has a bright career ahead of her.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “I think its girls who dislike her, not guys. Like in schools, for some reason people turn against one person if they annoy them. I think whatever happens with our Katie she will have a career.”
Meanwhile Boys category mentor Dannii Minogue has labelled Katie a “drama queen” and asked for a second week that Ferguson - who sung U2 track ‘I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For’ last night - moves more onstage.
Elsewhere contestant Wagner Carrilho has been accused of allegedly carrying out a drug deal inside ‘The X Factor’ studios. He is said to have acquired £10 (€11.77) of a drug after a Sunday night results show, claiming it helps him to relax.
