Small Cavan village launches campaign to attract people to move there
The small village of Bawnboy in Co. Cavan has launched a campaign to entice more families to come and live there.
The rural area, with a population of 300, has put out a call out to attract new members of their community as they are three pupils short of quota needed to keep its school’s third teacher.
St Aidan’s National School currently has 48 pupils enrolled for September but it needs 51 pupils enrolled by September 30 if they are to keep their current staff.
Speaking to RTÉ, the Principal of St Aidan’s National School, Ann Maguire said: We are three pupils short of retaining our third teacher so the push is on now before the 30th of September to get three more pupils into the school”

As this leaves their timeframe tight, the group behind the campaign has placed advertisements in local and national papers, along with creating a Facebook page, Support Bawnboy.
The page promotes properties that are for sale in the region ranging in prices from €79,000 to €290,000.
Along with boasting that the house prices are cheaper and class sizes are smaller, did we mention the broadband is high-speed?
