The Government's latest effort to encourage people to buy more environmentally friendly comes into force today.

The Government's latest effort to encourage people to buy more environmentally friendly comes into force today.

In future, seven rates of Vehicle Registration Tax will apply to vehicles based on their CO2 emissions rather than engine size.

The rates range from 14% to 36%.

A new labelling system showing the emissions of various vehicles has also been introduced to help buyers make an informed decision.

The changes to VRT follow a shake-up to the motor tax system earlier this year.
