Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams has given a pessimistic assessment of the current state of the peace process, saying the ongoing suspension of the institutions has put previous gains at risk.
Speaking in Belfast, Mr Adams said the British government must take responsibility for the situation after its decision to cancel the elections that were due to go ahead in the North last May.
"When a British Prime Minister tells a Taoiseach that he's going to ignore his entreaty, his appeal and his assertion on the need for elections, then that shakes the very fibre of the relationship between the two islands," Mr Adams said.
"That's bigger than him rejecting IRA moves, it's bigger than him rejecting Sinn Féin efforts."
