Ian Woosnam has become the latest entrant in February’s Heineken Classic in Australia, where he will take on the likes of Ernie Els and Greg Norman in a strong field.

The Welshman and Australian Stuart have both signed up for the £850,000 (€1,224,009) event to be staged at the Royal Melbourne course.

The tournament takes place from February 5-8 and is jointly-sanctioned by the European Tour and Australasian Tour.

Els is the defending champion, having beaten Nick Faldo by one stroke at last year’s tournament.

Faldo is also scheduled to take part, but Australian Peter Lonard has been ruled out after breaking a rib which is expected to keep him sidelined for the next six weeks.
