Father appeals for missing son's safety

A Co Cork father today appealed for the safe return of his missing 11-year-old son.

A Co Cork father today appealed for the safe return of his missing 11-year-old son.

Mark Holohan said he had not seen his son Robert since he left the family home in Ballyedmond, Midleton, Co Cork at 2.30pm yesterday.

He said: “I’m very concerned, I’m very, very worried about Robert. I don’t know what avenue to turn down. I just hope something’s going to turn up here today.”

Robert’s BMX bike, which had been given as a Christmas present, was found in a ditch half a mile away.

Robert, who is 4ft 11in, was wearing black tracksuit bottoms and a black jacket with Nike in orange on the back.

A search of the area involving gardaí with sniffer dogs, neighbours and a coastguard helicopter was underway today.

Mr Holohan said he could not understand how his son could have left his bike in the ditch.

“It doesn’t seem to make sense. He had a phone and we tried to ring him a few times on the phone. It just went to the answering machine,” he told RTE radio.

Gardaí appealed for anyone with information to contact gardaí at Midleton on 021-4621550.

A spokesman said there had been an unconfirmed report of a sighting of Robert in Dungarvan, Co Waterford.
