Middlesbrough are on the trail of Odd Grenland’s Norway Under-19 international Martin Wiig.
The Premiership club are chasing the 18-year-old who is due to play in the Under-19 European Championships on home soil next week.
However Odd have so far refused to sell Wiig, a regular in their side this season, despite increasing interest in the striker.
“When it was made known that Middlesbrough were interested, several others made contact and asked to be informed of any development regarding Wiig,” said Odd sporting director Jan Saterbakken.
Wiig is contracted with the club until the end of 2004, but Saterbakken admits his team could sell at the right price.
“It’s expensive to be poor,” he added.
