Naomi Campbell offered showgirl role

Supermodel Naomi Campbell has been offered a starring role in the Broadway production of Chicago.

Campbell – who’s singing career in the mid-Nineties flopped – reckons she has what it takes to be a stage star.

The Streatham-born beauty told Glamour magazine she is weighing up the offer to appear in the hit New York show.

“I was so flattered to be asked. It would make my mum happy,” she said.

Mum Valerie was a dancer and Campbell herself was a pupil at London’s Italia Conti stage school, learning tap dancing and ballet.

The 33-year-old has already tried her hand at the theatre, appearing in The Vagina Monologues.

Campbell said accepting the Chicago role would be daunting but added: “Yes, I’m nervous, but I learned a lot when I did The Vagina Monologues.”

The last time the supermodel attempted to wow the public with her singing ended in disaster.

Her debut single, Love And Tears, peaked at number 40 and her solo album, Babywoman, barely troubled the Top 200.

Elsewhere in the interview, Campbell also spoke about her new-found friendship with Victoria Beckham.

The pair used to be at each other’s throats after catty Campbell asked: “Why do they call you Posh?” and Beckham shot back: “Why do they call you beautiful?”

Beckham later branded her “a complete bitch” and “a massive cow” during a TV show.

But the duo appeared to have kissed and made up when they posed together at a Vogue charity party in New York earlier this year.

Campbell said: “She is one of my best friends. I don’t get to see her as much as I’d like, but when we do meet up it’s always a great laugh.

“I love her. She’s really bright and a hard worker. Victoria’s very honest. She showed me a few things that I just hadn’t seen before about her and about me. I really like my friendship with her. It’s genuine.

"We have a good giggle and I’m happy that everything is going well for her. She’s got her singing, she’s a wife and mother, and she’s got a lot of energy.”

The two women share the same firm of US publicists and have just filmed an advert together for record producer Damon Dash’s clothing line.
