Health complaints system to be in place by end of year

The Department of Health has said a new scheme allowing patients to make complaints against the health service will be in place by the end of this year.

The Department of Health has said a new scheme allowing patients to make complaints against the health service will be in place by the end of this year.

The department says regulations are currently being drafted for the setting up of the statutory complaints system, which is part of the 2004 Health Act.

A spokesperson says officials are currently consulting with healthcare professionals and trade unions with a view to having the scheme up and running by the end of the year.
