An Bord Pleanála has blocked a major internal facelift proposed for St. Colman's Cathedral in Cobh.

An Bord Pleanála has blocked a major internal facelift proposed for St. Colman's Cathedral in Cobh.

While the board's inspector recommended that permission be granted for the work, the board has decided to refuse permission on the grounds of its cathedral's architectural importance.

The board stated that the proposed re-ordering of the interior would materially and adversely affect the character of the cathedral.
