A brilliant goal from Vinny Faherty deservedly earned bottom side Galway a point against title-chasing St. Patrick's.

Faherty struck to level on 58 minutes when blasting a shot to the net to finish off a move involving Regi Nootimeer, John Russell and Derek O'Brien.

Galway started positively and Mark Leech shot narrowly wide inside four minutes following a good flowing move.

Saints, missing Keith Fahey in midfield, continued to struggle and it was little surprise when Galway took the lead on 23 minutes.

Faherty did the spade work to win the ball and play O'Brien in on goal and the winger drew Barry Ryan to shoot low to the corner of his net.

But St. Pat's hit back within three minutes. Gary Dempsey fed Ryan Guy on the left and his cross was shot to the net by Mark Quigley.

Quigley then put St. Pat's in front six minutes later when his header from Bobby Ryan's cross looped in over Gary Rogers.
