Man to be charged over Offaly cigarettes seizure

Gardai in Co Offaly are expected to charge a man in his 50s later this evening in connection wity the seizure of €1.74m worth of contraband cigarettes yesterday.

Gardai in Co Offaly are expected to charge a man in his 50s later this evening in connection wity the seizure of €1.74m worth of contraband cigarettes yesterday.

The man, believed to be a local businessman, was one of seven people arrested in connection with the seizure near the village of Belmont yesterday.

The cigarettes were found hidden in metal girders on the back of a truck during a search related to an investigation into an international drug smuggling operation.
