The problem of homelessness among Irish emigrants abroad is not just confined to older members of the community, according to the Irish Episcopal Commission for Emigrants which works with emigrants who have fallen on hard times in the UK, USA and Australia.
While many are elderly, emigration was widespread until the 80s and the group says there are plenty of younger people who are now on the margins of foreign societies.
A fundraiser is taking place in the National Concert Hall in Dublin tonight, aimed at helping the work of the commission.
