Abuse survivors divided on compensation package

Survivors of Clerical Abuse groups are divided on a package to be put in place after meeting with the Government tonight.

Survivors of Clerical Abuse groups are divided on a package to be put in place after meeting with the Government tonight.

Religious congregations are to offer €348m in 'reparation', but just €110m will be used as a trust fund for victims.

The remainder of the offer is to be used to compensate the taxpayer for the €1.3bn of the redress scheme.

Some survivors groups are angry that the State is claiming anything, with others demanding hard cash as compensation for victims rather than the trust fund.
