Latest: Clare gardaí taking alleged assault on schoolboy 'very, very seriously'
Investigations are continuing after a 13-year-old schoolboy was left with head injuries after he was attacked in Ennistymon, Co Clare around lunchtime yesterday.
Inspector Paul Slattery from Kilrush Garda Station, who is leading the investigation, told Clare FM: “in such an event, where the teenager presented himself with the symptoms of vomiting, headaches and nausea, and an obvious head injury, we would always take these matters quite seriously.
“And again, the result of his medical treatment, and information from the doctors in the hospital will determine the course of action we take.
“But yes, we do take these things very, very seriously.”
Gardaí investigating an assault on a 13-year-old boy in County Clare have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries.
The schoolboy was attacked by two teens, believed to be from another school, at Monastery Lane around lunchtime yesterday.
He suffered head injuries and was taken by air ambulance to University Hospital Limerick.
He has undergone scans and his injuries are thought to be not life-threatening.
Inspector Paul Slattery from Kilrush Garda Station told Clare FM that a forensic examination of the scene has also been carried out.
"What we would be asking for is anybody who was in the area of Monastery Lane between 1pm and 2pm on Wednesday 10 May who may have noticed something suspicious, or something going on in the area, to please contact Gardaí."
Gardaí in County Clare want to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the alleged assault of a schoolboy in Ennistymon.
The 13-year-old boy suffered head injuries when he was allegedly attacked by two other boys of similar age at Monastery Lane in Ennistymon.
It is understood the attackers were from a different school in the town.
The boy reported feeling unwell and was taken to a local medical centre and then transferred by air ambulance to University Hospital Limerick.
He has undergone scans and his injuries are thought to be not life-threatening.
The scene of assault was preserved for technical examination and investigations are continuing.
Gardaí in Ennistymon are investigating the incident and have appealed for witnesses.
A spokesman said they wished to speak to anyone who witnessed the alleged assault or who was in the Monastery Road area of the town between 1pm and 2pm today to contact them on 065 7072180.
