A new White Collar Crime Bill is due before the Cabinet on Tuesday.

It allows for workers in financial institutions who refuse to assist a Garda investigation to be guilty of a criminal offence.

It is just one of a series of bills being considered by the Cabinet before Christmas.

It also contains provisions for shorter periods of detention for suspects, rather than one long continuous block, to give Gardaí time to check the validity of complex financial statements.

Other pieces of legislation due to be considered by the Cabinet include bills on Climate Change and Corporate Donations.

And the bill which give powers to the new Mayor of Dublin is due before the Dáil.
