The Equality Authority has recommended that gay and lesbian couples be given the same rights to adopt and foster children as heterosexual couples.

In its ‘Implementing Equality for Lesbian, Gays and Bisexuals’ report, the authority also said that same-sex couples should have the same rights as married couples when it comes to inheritance and taxation.

The report found that gays, lesbians and bisexuals are not adequately recognised in Irish law and experience discrimination and exclusion in the workplace.
