Independent TD Luke 'Ming' Flanagan has said he has been contacted by a number of patients asking him to fight for the legalisation of cannabis on medical grounds.
Deputy Flanagan said that around 15 people suffering from multiple sclerosis and other illnesses had contacted his office over the controversial issue.
He said some patients have had some relief from a medicine available in the North which is cannabis-based, But they cannot get it here.
The Roscommon South Leitrim TD said: "I'm not saying this is a cure and a panacea for everything. It obviously isn't, but in cases where (it can help), it should be used."
