OPW defends decentralisation decision
The Chairperson of the Office of Public Works is rejecting suggestions that it has wasted millions of euro building a new state of the art headquarters in Co Meath.
Just over 240 staff have taken up decentralisation and have moved to the new office which is based in Trim.
This is of particular emabarrassment for the OPW, which was charged with the overall responsibility for moving public servants out of Dublin as part of the decentralisation programme, which has since been shelved.
Chairperson of the OPW Claire Mc Grath today told the Dáil Public Accounts Committee that it is hoped 260 staff will have taken up the relocation offer by the end of the year.
But she said the public service recruitment moratorium and early retirement are impacting on numbers.
