ICTU study predicts 11,000 job losses in voluntary sector

A new study shows that more than 11,000 jobs could be lost in the community and voluntary sectors over the next two years.

The research by the Irish Congress of Trade Unions forecasts that the sector will contract by over a third by 2013, because of cuts imposed under the EU/IMF bailout programme.

It also said, overall, employment in the sector may fall by 16,500 by 2015 from its peak in 2008.
